Listen, could you blame Steph if she assumed the weird voicemail she'd gotten had something to do with Isabela, somehow?
"Listen, if you're saying I have big boat energy I'll take the compliment but you're going to have to have any, uh, motoring needs taken care of elsewhere. Sorry."
A pause, then just before it seemed like the message was going to cut off:
I mean, that's really An Image, dude, but maybe that could mean lots of things! Who's trying to move this watermelon? HOW tight a space is it? Can we involve some kind of extradimensional science? And why a watermelon?
Here, have a voice message for a somewhat nervous Nell.
"Gladio... it's Nell. Nell Ingram? This coming Tuesday Marc and I are going to watch a baseball game at my house. I know you said you might be interested, so I'd be happy if you wanted to join us. Um... give me a call if you'd like."
Of course he would like, although, for whatever reason, Gladio didn't get a chance to get back to Nell right away, which meant he was left leaving a voicemail himself.
"Hey, Nell. It's Gladio." He grinned, unable to help himself from adding: "Gladio Amicitia? Tuesday sounds good; I'll be there. Let me know if you need me to bring anything. See ya around."
For some reason his response made Nell feel a little fluttery and she didn't know why. She did make sure to save his message and might have listened to it a second time (or three). For some reason.
Normally, Liliana wasn't the type to think of others. However, with Ignis meant to be on the other side of the world, sparing a thought for his roommate was easier than one might assume. At some point after Ignis had passed out in her bed, she pulled out her phone to send a text.
Gladio, it's Liliana. Ignis is here on Fandom, safe and sound if entirely foxed.
See? This is how you knew she [404 verb not found] you, Ignis. Otherwise she would have called you drunk off your ass, but 'foxed' sounding at least charming.
He'll be fine, if miserable tomorrow, but on the off-chance he did not inform you of his plans, I thought you would like to know where he is and that he's in no danger.
She made no promises about sending him back, however.
Nell had been Liliana's last stop on her jaunt around the island, but #18 MHA has been her first, letting herself in with a bit of metal with no real significance. There, on the same table that Gladio had tossed his keys the first night Liliana had stayed over, she set down another bit of metal, much bigger and bearing a small tag that simply read Gladio in a graceful and elegant script.
It appeared to be a small metal case at first glance, but upon the second, revealed itself to be a double metal picture frame that connected on one side with a hinge and latched on the other. Inside were, fittingly, two pictures, both from Liliana's Halloween party. The first was of Nell leaning over to examine something in Liliana's gardens and Gladio regarding her with a tender, loving smile that she had not seen but Liz's camera had picked up. The second was of the two of them grinning brightly at one another, in their matching costumes, on the brink of laughter and clearly having a delightful time together.
No one, looking at either picture, could doubt they were very much in love.
Gladio, it's Liliana. I was wondering if I could recruit you for a favor. I have all the baby gear Prompto didn't want for Noctra. Would it be possible for you to run it over to Annie for the twins sometime this week? Annie mentioned you by name as a possibility.
That and Gladio seemed just so much more the fetch and carry sort, but she didn't think that was necessary to mention.
When Gladio received this message and responded in a totally timely fashion, really, shut up, he just sort of grunted and rolled his eyes. What was he? Some kind of errand boy now? Didn't she have that creepy zombie steward she could send off to do this sort of thing? But....it was Annie, so he sighed heavily and shook his head and finally texted back.
yeah sure no problem. i'll come get it some time next week, i'm going away for a few days, but I'll take care of it when I get back.
She was being considerate, Gladio. Not everybody would be comfortable having a zombie near their infants. And Annie had basically asked for him, so there.
Gladio, since Wednesday is Ignis' birthday, I'm throwing a celebration for him on Wednesday. If you and Nell are free, I'm sure Ignis would love to have you there.
Well, that was...an interest text. On more than a few levels, really, and Gladio took his time with responding back, but he did get around to it. Eventually.
Well, I know I'll be there. I'm sure Nell will want to show up, too. Just hit me up if you need any help with anything.
One day he was going to realize that Ignis would not be her first target if she needed to drain someone. You don't break the things you [ERROR] unless there's no other choice.
Just so you know, apparently I was talking with Prompto at the picnic about how radio got things mixed up. My, they're having difficulty telling you three apart!

Think I'm going to try out the Onsen. I'll let you know what it's like later. Have fun at the party!

But I'll try and get him back to you in one piece.
Which he felt was a stronger guarantee than what Liliana could make!

Wacky Phone Day!
And if you did threaten me, you wouldn't live long enough to carry it out.

I think you would very much enjoy showing up in my backyard with a sword as soon as you possibly can.
